Fall 2025 Opportunities for Engagement

The Center for Social Justice Research, Teaching, and Service (CSJ) announces opportunities for social justice and deep community engagement in Fall 2025. Sign-up forms for these opportunities are available through CSJ’s website csj.georgetown.edu/fall2025. Each sign-up form includes more detailed information about the program, and most offer Federal Work Study positions. Get engaged as #HoyasForOthers through social justice work including CSJ EngageDC Programs, community service, community-based learning courses, research, spring break trips, and more–for a day, one week, or all semester–here in DC and around the world. Fall 2025 Opportunities for Engagement

Advisory Board for Student Organizations

If you are interested in getting involved with social justice, finance and philanthropy, club management, and student life here on campus, we encourage you to apply to serve as a Representative of the Advisory Board for Student Organizations, also known as ABSO. As an advisory board, ABSO works to support social justice-oriented student organizations on the Hilltop, with missions ranging from health to education to carceral justice. With an $150,000 annual budget, we oversee, facilitate, and provide resources to student-run social justice service activities, student advocacy, and community involvement activities at Georgetown. As a Representative, you will: liaise with your assigned organizations; advocate for them in the campus community; encourage their organizational development and innovation; allocate funds; and more! All students—especially underclass students (first-years and sophomores)—are encouraged to apply, regardless of your amount of experience in the CSJ or with any CSJ-ABSO Student Organizations. The application is due by 11:59Ppm ET on Sunday, April 6, 2025; note that a commitment to the board requires weekly attendance at our weekly board meetings on Tuesdays from 5:00–6:30PM. After School Kids Program

Mentor and tutor with the After School Kids (ASK) Program, which serves at-promise young people in the DC metropolitan area through both academic and social-emotional support, with an emphasis on youth justice. ASK offers a supportive team environment and multiple scheduling options during the school day and in the evening (Monday through Friday). Alternative Breaks Program

The Alternative Breaks Program (ABP) undergraduate student leaders design and facilitate immersive, justice-focused experiences that engage students in critical social issues across the country. Leaders are responsible for planning trip logistics, building relationships with community partners, and guiding participants in pre-trip education and post-trip reflection. Through this role, students develop leadership, facilitation, and project management skills while fostering meaningful dialogue on issues such as economic equity and community power. ABP Student Leaders commit to ethical engagement, centering community voices, and empowering peers to translate their experiences into sustained action for social change. Georgetown DC Reads Program

Georgetown DC Reads is a tutoring, mentoring, and advocacy program for K-5 elementary students in DCPS schools and community centers East of the River in DC. DC Reads tutors engage and cultivate students’ interest in reading and strengthen students’ literacy skills. DC Reads time commitment ranges from 6-8 hours per week, with multiple programming options to fit your schedule. Volunteer and Federal Work positions available! DC STEM

Georgetown DC STEM is a tutoring, mentoring, and advocacy program for K-5 elementary students in DCPS schools and community centers East of the River in DC. DC STEM tutors utilize a team-based model to increase students’ interest in and engagement with STEM topics through hands-on art-based experiments and activities.  STEM experience is NOT required — and students with non-STEM backgrounds and a general love for learning are heavily encouraged to join in on this work. DC Schools Project

DC Schools Project (DCSP) is a tutoring, mentoring, and advocacy program that serves youth and adult immigrants of all ages who are designated as newcomer English Language Learners (ELLs). DCSP offers multiple options to fit with your schedule. You do not have to speak another language to tutor with us! Join us today in Volunteer and Federal Work positions. HOME Program

The Center for Social Justice is seeking Student Staff for the Homelessness Outreach | Meals | Education (HOME) Program’s awareness and advocacy efforts and direct services and programming for unhoused and unsheltered individuals in partnership with Georgetown Ministry Center (GMC), Father McKenna Center (FMC), Ward 2 Mutual Aid, Ward 6 Mutual Aid/Serve Your City, and others. Social Innovation and Public Service (SIPS) Fund

The SIPS Fund is a $1.5 million student-run fund that makes strategic investments in Georgetown students and ideas that further our community’s Jesuit tradition of service to others. Since its inception in 2011, SIPS has funded more than $250,000 in student and alumni social ventures. Student Academic Assistants

CSJ Student Academic Assistants (SAAs) commit 4-8 hrs per week to complete organizational and logistical tasks to support faculty on their social justice focused courses and research projects. While SAAs meet and communicate regularly with their assigned faculty, they report to CSJ’s Director of Engaged Scholarship and Pedagogy, Dr. Fatemeh Hosseini. SAAs will be expected to attend 2-3 meetings during the fall semester as an entire cohort. Open to undergraduate students only and must have FWS and apply towards this position. Racial Justice Initiative (RJI) Coordinators

Are you interested in the opportunity to develop knowledge, awareness, and skills to host dialogue spaces for students, by students? We invite you to become an RJI Coordinator to facilitate the Center for Social Justice Critical Conversations on Race dialogue series. The series helps participants to understand how race impacts each person on an individual, group, and systemic level. This role requires evening availability between 5:00-8:30pm. UNXD 1130: CBL Social Action

UNXD 1130: CBL Social Action is a 1-credit, pass/fail, online, asynchronous course. Students integrate the course readings and learning material with their own community engagement experience through this 1-credit wrap-around course steeped in reflection. 30-40 hours of community-engaged/social justice work is required to be completed throughout the semester to pass the course. Climate and Environmental Justice (CEJ)

Are you seeking to learn more about various approaches to climate and environmental justice (CEJ), particularly approaches that center the frameworks of those most impacted by the climate crisis? We encourage you to apply to the Center for Social Justice’s climate and environmental justice program. In this program, you will have the opportunity to learn about anti-colonial approaches to sustainability, community-engaged environmental justice work, and the many intersections of climate justice. You will support meaningful projects towards the infusion of CEJ principles across the CSJ’s programming, while working with local environmentally engaged community partners. Immigrant Justice (IJI) Advocacy Coordinators

Passionate about immigrant justice and want to do more to act in solidarity with working class low-income immigrant communities in DC? Consider applying to be an Immigrant Justice Advocacy Coordinator. IJI Advocacy Coordinators will lead and facilitate efforts to mobilize resources, implement political education initiatives, and work in community with local migrant justice organizations to fight for and alongside immigrant communities in DC. Interested in opportunities to be in solidarity with low-income working class immigrant communities in DC? Consider joining the Immigrant Justice Advocacy Team! Immigrant Justice Advocacy Team members will be engaging in opportunities to gain professional and practical skills in activism, community outreach, case advocacy, and advocacy teamwork. The program emphasizes developing frameworks and practice rooted in social justice, critical consciousness-raising, and centering community as it connects at various intersections of immigration/migration. Student Leadership and Training Team

We are looking for an invested upperclassman (entering their junior or senior year) who has a deep interest in leadership development, curriculum creation, and facilitation of discussions pertaining to social justice. This position is primarily responsible for co-facilitating training on the protection of vulnerable populations, as well as co-creating workshops relevant to students in leadership positions of student organizations focused on social justice. This student would work on a tight-knit team consisting of the Assistant Director for Student Organizations and Leadership and the Justice Graduate Intern for Student Leadership and Training.
