Jumpstart is a national early education organization that works with underserved preschool children in schools and community centers. Jumpstart Corps members (CMs) implement after-school programming twice per week which helps to build the language, literacy, and socio-emotional skills that preschool children need to be ready for kindergarten. In addition, CMs spend 3-4 hours per week in a preschool classroom supporting children in a one-on-one setting, learning valuable classroom management skills, and teaching techniques from professional staff.

Jumpstart works with underserved preschool children to develop language and literacy skills that youth need to be ready for school, setting them on a path to close the achievement gap. Over the summer Jumpstart corps members have the opportunity to gain experience in a 35-40 hour per week, immersive classroom experience. Teams will spend the majority of their day at the partner school - split between working in the daytime classroom under professional teachers, preparing for session individually and with their team, as well as implementing session. This increased time at the schools will allow for more professional development and hands-on experience than the academic year program provides, and would more fully prepare those interested in teaching to pursue that path. All Corps Members receive high quality training to help them implement Jumpstart’s outcome-based program and promote children’s school success. Register your interest online. Interest forms are accepted on a rolling basis, and priority consideration is given to interest received by January 28. Contact the Jumpstart Site Manager, Melissa Bernard, at firstname.lastname@example.org with questions.
The Jumpstart Program falls under Georgetown University's Protection of Minors policy.
