Virtual Conference Schedule

Live YouTube premieres of six pre-recorded plenary sessions will prioritize a focus on the Universal Apostolic Preferences and will be followed by Live Zoom “question & response” sessions, each ending with an Ignatian Examen. Tuesday, June 8: Welcome and the Universal Apostolic Preferences

President John J. DeGioia of Georgetown University will provide a welcome to our virtual gathering. Next, we will hear from the Superior General of the Society of Jesus, Father Arturo Marcelino Sosa Abascal, SJ. Debra Mooney (Xavier University), Robert Kelly (Loyola University Maryland), and Margaret Freije (College of the Holy Cross) will offer responses to Father Sosa’s remarks. National Steering Committee co-chairs Joe Orlando (Seattle University) and Mike Duffy (University of San Francisco) will moderate the Live Zoom session which will end with an Ignatian Examen facilitated by Jennifer Abe (Loyola University Maryland).

Thursday, June 10: Spirituality and Justice in Jesuit Higher Education 

Reverend Thomas Smolich, SJ, International Director of the Jesuit Refugee Service, will offer a keynote plenary. He will be introduced by Erin Cline (Georgetown University). Susan Haarman (Loyola University Chicago) will facilitate the Live Zoom session with Rev. Smolich which will end with an Ignatian Examen facilitated by Kathleen Maas Weigert (Loyola University Chicago).

Monday June 14: Racial Justice and the Mission of Jesuit Higher Education

Kaye Whitehead (Loyola University Maryland) will facilitate a conversation with panelists: Keesha Middlemass (Howard University); Mélisande Short-Colomb (Georgetown University); and Yohuru Williams (University of St. Thomas). After the panel, a Live Zoom session will be moderated by Ray Shiu (Georgetown University). This Q&R session will be followed by an Ignatian Examen led by Julia Vargas (Rockhurst University).

Wednesday, June 16: Immigration and the Call to Justice in Jesuit Higher Education

Genevieve Negrón-Gonzales will facilitate a conversation with panelists: Jose Cabrera (Ignatian Solidarity Network); Joanna Williams (Kino Border Initiative); and Joan Rosenhauer (Jesuit Refugee Service/USA). After the panel, a Live Zoom session will be moderated by Jennifer Woolard (Georgetown University) and followed by an Ignatian Examen led by Christopher Kerr (Ignatian Solidarity Network).

Tuesday, June 22: Women’s Leadership and the Call to Justice in Jesuit Higher Education

Dr. Patricia Grant of the McDonough School of Business will introduce this panel. Erika Kirby (Creighton University) will facilitate a conversation with panelists: Margo J. Heydt (Xavier University); Michelle Murray (College of the Holy Cross); Tania Tetlow (Loyola University New Orleans); and Stephanie Russel (AJCU). After the panel, a Live Zoom session will follow and be followed by an Ignatian Examen led by Juniper Ellis (Loyola University Maryland).

Thursday, June 24: Environmental Justice and the Mission of Jesuit Higher Education

Our final plenary keynote speaker is Nancy Tuchman (Loyola University Chicago). She will be introduced by Gaël Giraud, SJ (Georgetown University). We will host a Live Zoom session with Nancy Tuchman This gathering will end with remarks from Mike Garanzini, SJ (AJCU), Janet Sisler (Loyola University Chicago), and an Ignatian Examen facilitated by Daniel DiLeo (Creighton University).
