Join the Center for Social Justice Research, Teaching & Service and the DC Promise Neighborhood Initiative for a service day honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. DCPNI and Ward 7 residents, and GU undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff and local alumni will work in service projects throughout Ward 7 and then join together for a community celebration.
The 2014 MLK Day of Service will be held on Saturday, January 25th. Hundreds of Ward 7 residents and members of the Georgetown University community will spend the day engaging in a variety of service projects, from creating care packages for NIH Children’s Inn; to sandwich making for Martha’s Table; to working with the elderly at Carver 2000; to working with youth at DC Prep and many more! All participants will end the day by reflecting on their experiences and the coming together for a community lunch and celebration with performance groups at Cesar Chavez at Parkside. Why Ward 7? 9:30 AM-10:30 AM: Registration in MSB Hariri (for Main Campus)
10:00 AM-11:00 AM: Registration in SCS Auditorium (for SCS and Law Center)
10:15 AM-11:00 AM: Registration at Cesar Chavez Public Charter School for Public Policy at Parkside (for alumni and community members)
10:30 AM (Main Campus)/11:00 AM (SCS/Law Center): Depart for Sites
11:30 AM-1:30 PM: Service at sites
1:30-2:00 PM: Reflection at sites
2:00-4:00 PM: Community Lunch and Celebration
4:00-4:30 PM: Return to campus

The 2014 MLK Day of Service will be held on Saturday, January 25th. Hundreds of Ward 7 residents and members of the Georgetown University community will spend the day engaging in a variety of service projects, from creating care packages for NIH Children’s Inn, to letter writing to veterans, to working with the elderly. For undergraduates, graduate students on the main campus, faculty and staff, check-in and day-of registration begins at 9:30 am in MSB Hariri. For Law Center and School of Continuing Studies graduate students, check-in and day-of registration begins at 10:00 am at the SCS Auditorium at the main entrance. For Ward 7 residents and GU alumni, check-in and day-of registration begins at 10:30 am at Cesar Chavez Public Charter School for Public Policy at Parkside (3701 Hayes St NE, Washington, DC 20019). The day ends with a community lunch and celebration and will conclude by 4:00 or 4:30 pm.

Site leaders are responsible for managing volunteers at their respective service sites, leading participants in reflection, as well as contributing to the planning process for the event.
